The Defining Web 3.0 Event – You’re Invited!!!

So I’d like to share with everyone an event I’m helping produce for Jupiter Media. We are producing the Seminole Web 3.0 Event on October 16/17 in CA. The premise is that the next evolution of the internet is based on open data standard and articulating data the way people think – true associative processing or Semantic Web for those that choose to go with the official lingo. I think it’s a very exciting time in the evolution of digital media and technology and that we are on the forefront of the true power of the internet. When search can mimic the way I network in real life and really mine data – that will be the day the internet really grows up. If anyone is interested in attending or speaking check it out at www.web3event.com. I hope to see everyone there.

Just Say NO! – To Monikers

So as you know I’m producing the www.Web3Event.com. The event defining Web 3.0. So I invited Guy Kawasaki to keynote and he turned me down saying that he doesn’t like putting terms on things. I replied that monikers are important because they allow people to quantify things in their own heads. Labels serve a purpose in that they allow people to rationalize their lives and actions and ideas around sets of “standards” albeit flimsy ones. I happen to agree with Guy that monikers are often worthless in the definitive sense but its something to think about that they help people synthesize their thoughts….he agreed with me … but still turned me down to speak ….

People need monikers!

So I was recently going back and forth with Guy Kawasaki about web 2.0 / Web 3.0. I had asked him to keynote the Web 3.0 Conference - that i’m producing. He responded that he still doesn’t get Web 2.0 and basically that terms are worthless. After some more emails, I remarked that most people need a moniker in order to understand an idea. Otherwise people don’t know how to understand things. The average person isn’t Guy Kawasaki, it’s Joe Schmo. In the end, he agreed with me but still turned down keynoting the event. So when thinking about and speaking about terms such as Web 2, Web 3 etc… remember a) terms are bullshit but b) terms are good to help quantify something so not such a bad thing

and c) go to my event!
