So I just saw 2 movies, Vantage Point & 88 Minutes. First off, both are good movies in the suspense, I donno what’s going on genre. Second, thankfully there’s finally some creativity in movies again. Both were great films. Vantage point hammers home the point in the last 2 seconds that you never really know what’s going on and in the movie you really don’t ever find out. 88 minutes leaves you wondering what’s going on until the last 2 minutes. Both films are directed like chess masters at play - always several steps ahead of you. This type of approach to life is great and we should all think like that and keep these points in mind - that a) you really never know what’s truly going on - everyone has an angle and second, that someone is always 2 steps ahead of you no matter how smart you are, so be humble. Watching these films made me think about myself and be a bit reflective towards my attitudes as of late.

So to conclude I was not paid by anyone to write this post.

I just saw I am Legend. Interesting movie. i liked the first 2/3 1 man living alone, Will Smith carries it well and you don’t even realize the whole movie is basically one actor. The dog is amazing too. The problem is the end doesn’t make any sense. A) I hate CGI zombies, they feel so unreal and B) How does the uninfected lady make it onto and then off of Manhattan when it was quarantined, doesn’t make any sense at all. I would have preferred if the dog got infected, Will Smith kills himself, movie ends, would have been grim, gruesome and not hollywood but he’d win an Oscar for it. Instead the plot becomes flawed and makes no sense. Hollywood, do something original, special effects are not needed for a zombie movie. 28 days later was a better zombie movie. This was a great 1 man epic tale until they blew it.

I just got back from seeing we own the night, which was a great film. I gotta say excellent, great storyline, many surprises, lots of drama, awesome camerawork/direction and great acting. Mark W. as always plays a cop, he just looks like one. Though i’d be willing to bet that joakim (is that how you spell it) phoenix was high during the entire filming, rosy cheeks and spaced out eyes even in the scenes where hes supposed to be sober, but still a good role and well done. One of the best movies of the year, reminds of another Mark W film the departed. Kudos.

Mark Cuban good job. I remember a post on his blog a while back about how to save film, i have an answer and its all of 2 words: “PROFIT SHARING” make everyone in the film from director to the intern to the 3rd assistant of the staff accountant accountable, everyone makes money on the backend primarily and studios stop padding costs. This way everyone has an incentive to make good film and a lot of the shit will go away. I was on line for we own the nights and the theater was packed, and people waiting for the next show. Good film = good audience = paying customers. I would also offer the DVD’s for sale on the way out and make it available online immediately. The easier people have access to good film - the faster word gets around. Just cut the shit out of the process and you have a much better shot at success and since films will cost less you can make more experimental fare.
