Walk the Journey

A friend of mine Nicole is running this great event and I wanted to share it with everyone….

The walk is November 1st, a week from Saturday. See below for blurb/info:
Walk the Journey

St. Joseph Hill, St. John Villa, and Notre Dame high schools in collaboration with A Tailored Event present, “Walk the Journey,” a fundraising walk that is taking place on November 1, 2008 at the Midland Beach Promenade on Staten Island, New York.

By getting involved you will be joining our journey to benefit the Caron Treatment Centers Adolescent Scholarship Fund, raising awareness of the serious disease of addiction, and helping to remove barriers to recovery for those who are currently struggling with alcohol and drug addictions.

Many people do not understand that addiction is a disease- not a moral failing or character flaw. With more than 23 million Americans addicted to drugs and alcohol, this disease has become America’s #1 healthcare crisis. These millions suffering do not have the income to cover the desperately needed treatment and to make matters worse most health insurance companies do not cover comprehensive addiction treatment. In fact, only 2 million of those suffering will receive treatment.

Fortunately, Caron Treatment Center’s attention has been placed on this need through their development of the Adolescent Scholarship Fund. This fund aids in the treatment costs for individuals who do not have the resources to cover the cost of the care that is so desperately needed. In Caron’s most recent fiscal year, they gave more than $9 Million in treatment scholarships.
