The Tipping Point of Entrepreneurship

So I would like to muse that there is a point in time where entrepreneurs become idea people. Now, most entrepreneurs usually start with a single idea and can think of nothing but that during their first company. However, somewhere along the lines, after about 2 years of running a company, just about every entrepreneur I know starts coming up with dozens of ideas for new companies. It is like there is some hidden tipping point where every hard driven entrepreneur becomes an idea junkie. Now some entrepreneurs are better than others at focusing and those are usually the most successful ones but still the ideas start flowing after some hidden point. I don’t know where/when it occurs but it almost always occurs. And that is the point where someone who fell into entrepreneurship becomes a true Crazy Entrepreneur. :)

I think the problem at that point is proitizing the ideas and still maintaining focus. I have a notebook that is overflowing with over a hundred ideas and associated charts/doodles and feature requirements list. The key is taking a cold hard look at them and seeing which one would provide serious value, and which ones you think are just cool. Minimally you need to focus on an idea for 3 months to bring it into the real world, so in that time you need to keep writing your ideas so you can reassess them when you are ready for the next project.

It always happens - the trick is to learn how to prioritize/filter your good ideas from the bad ones. It’s a constant struggle to regain focus but laser sharp focus is required for great success. If an entrepreneur is successful and builds up significant wealth after one or two business victories, then he might have the capacity to concentrate on a few ideas at a time, if he has the ability to buy some good help and delegate.
